What is this website all about?
In many ways this website is an experiment… it is a 2024 New Year’s resolution not only to give something back but also to act as an archive for my thoughts and to bolster my understanding of modern web frameworks.
In my day job, I get to work alongside some incredibly talented individuals who build and maintain a raft of static and dynamic web applications, but I don’t often have a chance to get my hands dirty and truly understand their (the web app’s) inner workings. So one reason for building my own website was to get a taste for how a website can be built nowadays, and what it takes to feed and water it over its lifetime (i.e. As a CISO, I am ‘dogfooding’ it so that I can better apply what I learn here in my professional role).
Secondly, I do quite a bit of ‘social’ posting on our organisation’s internal Intranet and social feeds, primarily to raise awareness of cybersecurity and privacy with a few other bits and pieces mixed in. Part of my New Year’s resolution for 2024 was to start hosting some of this content myself, such that I could have better control over what is said, its layout, and as an added benefit, to broaden my audience as some bits could be useful for others in a wider context.
Lastly, and this point is closely related to the point above, I have been reflecting quite a bit on my career to date – probably as a result of catching up with some old acquaintances over the New Year’s period. I thought it would be kinda cool to have a chronologically ordered archive of my thoughts and musings (outside of LinkedIn, Twitter, Yammer, etc.) – as cluttered and unorganised as these thoughts may be at times.
Whilst these three aspects were the catalysts for this website, I do not doubt that both the website and I will evolve as time goes on. As a digital ‘time capsule’, it will be interesting to reflect on this website in 10, 15, or maybe 20 years to see that evolution (or maybe just to embarrass my daughter – one of the two).
